This downloadable file allows you to 3D print a compact valve practice block designed to help students practice valve combinations away from their instrument.

Students can use the block to build muscle memory, coordination, and fingering accuracy anytime, anywhere.

This design uses mechanical keyboard switches as the valve return mechanism, creating a simple and durable practice tool that can be printed on most desktop 3D printers.

What This Is

A compact 3-valve practice block that allows students to practice:

• valve combinations
• fingering patterns
• coordination and muscle memory
• silent practice away from the instrument

Printing Information

Print Difficulty: Easy

Supports: Minimal

Estimated Print Time: ~1–1.5 hours total on a Bambu P1S

PLA is recommended for best results, though PETG should also work well.

Minimal supports are required under the internal valve openings on the body piece.

Additional Hardware Required

To assemble the practice block you will need:

3 MX-style mechanical keyboard switches (Generic ones work)

These switches act as the spring return for the valves.

Common examples include:

  • Cherry MX style switches
  • Gateron switches
  • Kailh switches

***Linear switches are recommended for the smoothest feel.***
